Oral History Project

oral history cassettes
The Historical Society’s Oral History Project’s goal is to gather memories, experiences and stories of Moorestown’s residents. We hope to preserve a sense of who lived here and what life was like in the past. We hope these recordings will be an invaluable aid to historical research, as well as an enjoyable experience for anyone who is curious to listen.

According to the Oral History Association, “Oral history refers both to a method of recording and preserving oral testimony and to the product of that process. It begins with an audio or video recording of a first person account made by an interviewer with an interviewee (also referred to as narrator), both of whom have the conscious intention of creating a permanent record to contribute to an understanding of the past. A verbal document, the oral history, results from this process and is preserved and made available in different forms to other users, researchers, and the public.”

If you’d like to contribute to this project, please email us at moorestownhistory@comcast.net or call us at 856-235-0353 to set up an appointment.

How do I listen to the conversations? I lived in “Lenola” from 1951 until 1964. I went to Lenola Elementary School until 6th grade then to Moorestown High School (Eagles!!) until 9th grade. I then moved to Florida at age 12 and finished grades 10,11,12 there. Now retired and I feel like I never got to say good bye to Moorestown/Lenola. I miss my childhood friends – Roberta Fredericks and Jackie Ruggiano. I have lots of pictures from our house – which was at 15 Erickson Ave., Lenola. Thanks for the work you do to preserve our memories. Barbara Wentz (now Barbara Cappadony)
