đ¶ Paddles, Patriots & a Rubber Chicken: History Joins the Race at Strawbridge Lake: Sat. June 14! This year, the Historical Society of Moorestown and Moorestown250 are proudly paddling into historyâliterally.
Weâre teaming up with the Strawbridge Lake Beautification Committee to support their epic paddle board and kayak race, because restoring and celebrating our townâs natural beauty is just as important as preserving its rich past. What better way to bring the generations together than a day of fun on the water, music, games, cardboard boat racesâand a few historical surprises?
đ Yes, Thatâs a Rubber Chicken
Richard Smith, namesake of the 1738 Smith-Cadbury Mansion, is paddling with a rubber chicken strapped to his board. Why? Legend has it Hessian soldiers plundered the mansion in 1778 and slaughtered all the chickens⊠in the parlor. Richardâs chicken is a hilarious tribute to that feathery moment in Revolutionary history.
â€ïž Why We Race
Because history is more than storiesâitâs the land, the lake, and the legacy we share. Supporting the Beautification Committee means preserving the places where our past and present meet.
So cheer us on, learn a little, laugh a lotâand donât forget to thank a volunteer (and maybe a chicken).
